YSYSL Information for Coaches

I want to coach! How do I start? Coach registration opened on May 1 and there are four (4) processes each registered head and assistant coach must complete. We cannot give you a roster or assign you to a team unless the requirements are met. The requirements are: Live Scan – This is only done once and remains valid as long as the coach continues with YSYSL. We cannot accept Live Scan from your work or other volunteer organizations. Background Check: This process is performed annually and begins June 1 of each year. Safe Sport (more on this below): This course must be taken annually after June 1 of each year. Introduction to Safety (Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments): This course must be taken annually after June 1 of each year. We recommend that all coaches complete the courses as soon as possible after June 1st so that they can be complete when our Area Managers create the teams.

New for 2024-25! YSYSL is prioritizing player applications for coaches who have current US Soccer Federation coaching or United Soccer Coaching certifications. If you have them, check your GotSoccer profile and ask coaching@yubasuttersoccer.com for help if they don't appear.

How do I know if I am up to date with all the requirements? Please refer to this document for instructions and to see if you have completed the 4 legal and safety requirements you must meet to coach in YSYSL:

How do I do the annual courses? CalNorth has documents with instructions on safe sports, introduction to safety and background checks. In the About Us menu, see Downloads for these files with screenshots and information. The Background Check can be completed annually after June 1 and Safe Sport can be renewed with 60 days of the current year's expiration date. See at the end of this page more information about Safe Sports

When will I receive my roster? When can I start practicing? Rosters will be delivered at the beginning of August at the coaches meeting. You can start practicing at any time after that.

How do I get fingerprinted (Live Scan)? YSYSL will be holding sessions at Riverfront Park this summer, or contact coachregistrar@yubasuttersoccer.com for a prepaid code and instructions.

Why do I have to be fingerprinted? State law requires fingerprinting and background checks of anyone responsible for youth athletes. Additionally, we and our state governing body, CalNorth, see the importance of our coaches receiving safety training.

Where do I practice? Unfortunately, most community parks and schools cannot be reserved, so find the space you can. Riverfront Park can be reserved, but priority is given to competitive teams, Metro teams, and Marysville teams as it is their city park and there are fewer space opportunities for older Marysville teams. A form will be posted on the website soon. Stay tuned to this space.

U8 and U10 Build-Out Line and Goalkeepers Following US Soccer's small game standards, we are using the Build-Out line and modifications for all U8 and U10 games. When a ball goes out for a goal kick, a foul that begins near a team's own goal, or the goalkeeper takes possession of the ball in his hands, the opposing team must retreat behind the Construction Line. The goalkeeper's team may remain anywhere on the field. For restarts, once the ball has been kicked, it is live and the opposing team can cross the line to press. When the goalkeeper picks up and holds the ball, the opposing team must retreat behind the construction line. The goalkeeper can throw the ball to a teammate or leave it on the ground to dribble or pass. At the moment of the shot, dribble or pass, the ball is live and the opposing team can cross the line and play. Goalkeepers CANNOT kick or kick the ball. The purpose of this is to allow players to learn skills and play from the back.

Coaching Courses! YSYSL is planning to host 7v7 and 9v9 training courses again in 2025. In the meantime, you can take the courses online at US Soccer Coaching Education. YSYSL will reimburse the course cost for any coach who is actively coaching in the matching age in the 2024 season.

How can I become a better coach? YSYSL hosts 7v7 (U10) and 9v9 (U12) training clinics annually in early summer. Space will be limited. See the page: https://yubasuttersoccer.com/content/2552/CoursesLicensing  or contact coaching@yubasuttersoccer.com if you are interested. The MOJO SPORTS app is available for iPhone and Android and has full practice plans and more, and is free for YSYSL coaches.

Please note the following information: We assume similar deadlines will apply for the 24-25 season.

From the recent GotSoccer update to the coaches' profiles:

*SafeSport 3 review

The following courses do not meet this requirement:

*SafeSport for young athletes
*Safe Sport for Adult Athletes
*Safe sport for children

INSTRUCTIONS - TO TAKE THE COURSE:

If you need to complete the SafeSport training, click the Start Course button and follow the instructions; Click here if you need more help.

INSTRUCTIONS - REQUEST COMPLETION OF THE SAFESPORT COURSE TO YOUR GOTSPORT ACCOUNT THROUGH THIS PAGE:
There are two ways to automatically sync your training between your SafeSportTrained.org account and GotSport, as follows:

1. First, leave the completion code field blank and click the Check Records button below to sync based on exact match of first name, last name, and email address. Click here to submit a support ticket to Safe Sport to change your profile name.

2. If that doesn't work, enter your SafeSport certificate completion code (shown at the bottom of your certificate) below and then click the Check Records button to sync based on the exact match of that code + last name . Your certificate of completion can be accessed through the Transcripts menu section of your SafeSportTrained.org account.

Once the Check Logs button is activated, wait up to 15 seconds for the result to display. If a record is found/synced and the requirement is marked as "fulfilled" for the corresponding season, no further action is required.

If none of these work, manually upload your certificate of completion by clicking the Show Safe Sports Upload Form link below. Please note that certificates uploaded using this method must be manually reviewed by YSYSL/CalNorth staff, which may result in a delay. Therefore, first exhaust each of the automated options described above.
