FAQ

When are the games?

It varies slightly from year to year, but we generally being in late August and end around the end of Daylight Savings Time. Recreational games are on Saturdays; Metro and CPL teams might play on Sundays occasionally. For 2024, play begins on August 24 with games or a jamboree, depending on age/division, and runs to November 2, with no play on August 31 and October 5.

When will I know what team my player is on? When will we get their schedule?

As soon as registration closes, our Area Managers start the process of building rosters and with the Coaching Coordinator, getting coaches for the teams. Coaches must complete a registration process that includes fingerprinting, background checks and player safety training. We hand out rosters generally in mid-August and teams can get together and start practicing. If you have not been contacted by a coach or manager by the last week of August, reach out to your Area Manager or a Board Member so we can see what is happening.

How do I know my player or coach registration was successful?

If you were charged, your player is registered for the season. With over 1700 players, we depend on the system emails to be the primary communication. If you have not seen emails from the GotSoccer registration system, first check your email Spam or Junk folder. If you still are not seeing communication, or you have not been charged but think your registration is complete, reach out to our registrar at registrar@yubasuttersoccer.com.

Where do the player fees go?

The player fees pay for the referees, renting the extra restrooms, maintaining the fields, insurance cost, registration fees, balls and nets for the goals, tree maintenance, storage of the equipment, the custodian that cleans the restrooms and brings the garbage cans in and out, water and electrical for the pumps and much more. There are a couple of paid positions on the board but most of the work is done by volunteers.

It is important to remember that we pay all grounds keeping cost and the vast majority of maintenance of the fields. This is the current contract with the city of Marysville to keep the fields available to soccer. Every year there are extra things to consider  This year we replaced the pumps that water the fields which was a substantial amount of money. In the next couple of years we will need to slurry and stripe the parking lot and we hope to be able to do some field improvements, if we don’t have to cleanup any flooding.

Why does the league charge the same for U6 and U14?

YSYSL charges the same for all players as they progress through the age groups to ensure that your player does not have to experience large increases in fees as they age up.  Although U6 do not have referees they do incur league overhead cost such as coach registration and fingerprinting coaches at a greater rate per team, player registration/insurance, field and facility maintenance, and other costs that all players incur.

Why do the player fees increase from one year to the next?

The fees have gone up some over the past years but so has the referee pay, the cost of the maintenance position and insurance cost. If you look at the leagues in our area the average registration is $120 (not including uniform) based on the survey we did this summer.

Who sets the referee pay amounts?

Referee pay is developed based on an survey of neighboring youth soccer programs and set based on YSYSL needs for growth and retention of referees. Referees are trained on the Laws of the Game and certified, but learn “on the job” during games, just as the players and coaches do. Yelling at, or criticizing referees verbally during a game is never acceptable and sets a bad example of sportsmanship for our young athletes.

How do I handle a game situation if there is a problem?

If the issue is urgent, send a responsible adult to the Clubhouse or referee table to get assistance. If its less critical, request the game card from the referee and comment constructively. Every game card is reviewed by the PAD (Protests, Appeals and Discipline) Committee and we use these to address Board, referee and coach improvement. If you don’t have a chance to comment on the game card, email your Area Manager and the issue/question will be addressed as appropriate.
